Making tea in a coffee machine?

I know purists will call this blasphemy, but today I went to a local restaurant in the city that is known to serve very good tea. The way they do is they take ground up tea leaves, use a coffee maker and pour hot water into the top of the machine. Within three minutes, have a big pot of tea. Have others here tried this?

Yes My husband makes the tea prepared in the brewer. The tea is always great!
