How do you make coffee less bitter?

We have been using Starbucks coffee beans since Christmas and every time we make a pot, it is very bitter. We are using the correct amount of coffee and water, but still has a bitter taste. We even cleaned the coffee machine (as instructed the manufacturer), but that has not helped either. This does not happen when using other brands of ground coffee. Any suggestions (other than, "Do not use the Starbucks coffee)?
